Caitlin Fisher Lecture: Tuesday March 22, 2011

Creative writer and digital media artist, Caitlin Fisher will visit

our campus just after spring break. She will give a public lecture

about her creative work at 6pm on March 22 and meet with digital arts

classes at UMD during the day. Her interdisciplinary creative projects

are of interest to writers, digital artists, designers, computer

scientists, filmmakers and anyone exploring emerging media formats.

Caitlin Fisher holds a Canada Research Chair in Digital Culture in the

Department of Film at York University, Toronto. A co-founder of York’s

Future Cinema Lab, her research investigates the future of narrative

through explorations of interactive storytelling and interactive

cinema. She also directs York’s Augmented Reality Lab, drawing

students from both Fine Arts and Computer Science and producing

software and interface solutions as well as groundbreaking content.

Caitlin was awarded the International Electronic Literature Award for

Fiction in 2001. More recently, her augmented reality poem, Andromeda,

was awarded the 2008 International VinarĂ²s Prize for Electronic

Literature.
